Beverly Parkhurst Moss and three-year old Mary (daughter of a ‘Lost Girl’) enjoyed an enthusiastic reception for the book Dark Exodus at a book- signing event that was held at the Fellowship Bible Church in Dallas.

Little Mary tells everyone that Mama Beverly is her best grandma.  Of course, Mary has never seen her grandma and at this point, possibly never will.

Mary’s mother, Rebecca, who lived in the southern part of Sudan, was just a toddler when her village was attacked. An older child picked her up and ran.

Rebecca ended up with a small group of children who wandered in the desert and jungles until they reached the refugee camp in Kenya.  It is estimated that Rebecca was approximately 10 years old at the time.

She arrived in Houston when she was 15 years old and eventually made her way to Dallas where she eventually gave birth to three girls.  All of those years she believed her mother was dead.  It was right after Mary’s birth that she got a call from the Red Cross.  Her mother was alive.  She had been captured as a slave and used to carry ammunition for the Arabs. Years later they released her and she was able to make her way to the refugee camp.

Rebecca is illiterate and works on an assembly line.  She has been trying to support her mother and secure her release ever since she found out she was alive.

Meanwhile, Rebecca’s children, and so many other Sudanese children have lost their history.  Is it any wonder that little Mary thinks Beverly is her grandmother?

The Lost Girls of Sudan, all brave Sudanese women, need your support.

Beverly Parkhurst Moss and her partner, Anne Worth, often accompanied by the Lost Girls of Sudan, put on a 30 to 45 minute presentation for churches, women’s groups and people interested in community outreach that makes a dramatic and inspirational event. If you would like to schedule a presentation for your organization, or for more information, contact Beverly.

When you buy a book, fifty percent of the proceeds of the book go to the Sudanese women featured.  Beverly Parkhurst Moss is in the process of setting up a non-profit (501c3) program that will help the Sudanese women in their educational needs.
